Figurines

How do you stage a dead body, a monk, a porn star, a basketball celebrity, a Walt Disney monster, a first lady, a conductor, a grandma with Parkinsons, the Virgin Mary, Mr Muscle and the Statue of Liberty in the same piece through one lone performer?

This could have been a starting point for Figurines. But as the audience enters the performing space they only see a curled up body resting on a bare stage. At first simply stating its presence in the space, this body is about to set off on a journey of transformation and becoming by shaping and re-shaping itself continuously.  You are invited to witness a dancer meander, swirl and wobble through a never-ending flow of representations, to be lead on a meditative ride where images emerge, fuse and disappear relentlessly.

Figurines is the staging of a research that initially set out to manipulate and explore the inescapable tension existing between the audience’s understanding of a performer’s representation and their perception of her presence. Exploiting the body as a raw material endlessly molded into series of images, the work slowly reveals the relationship between objectification and viscerality.

The equilibrist is a dance monologue dedicated to the time of waiting… to the time before starting.

…An acrobat prepares for performance. Tries to balance and to hold himself up before walking on the rope. Always facing the danger of falling -  of a small death.

A metaphor about man in front of something bigger than him, of something that one cannot control or predict, in front of a tight spot which only by traversing it one will find out whether he is able do it or not.

The performance is part of the 10th Festival of Choreographers (with the support of  the Minister of Culture and Tourism) and participates in the festival as an Independent Performance

Begin to begin: A piece about dead ends

The piece has at its centre the theme of dying. Taking the nursery rhyme Michael Finnegan and putting it in motion, three dancers enact a playfully defiant death ritual, where the idea of mortality is both profound yet unfrightening.

1st period of development for our new project “Little Pascal” a multi-media installation/ game/ performance.

We will be in residency at Dance Digital in Chelmsford between the 21st and the 30th of January.

Το Present Body ξεκινάει νέο σεμιναριακό κύκλο μαθημάτων Σύγχρονου Χορού με την Μυρτώ ΓκουζέλουΤετάρτη 21:00μμ-22:30μμ, 9 Μαρτίου 2011 μέχρι 29 Ιουνίου 2011. Το πρώτο μάθημα γνωριμίας στις 9 Μαρτίου είναι ανοικτό και προσφέρεται δωρεάν.

Θέμα: «Η ροή της κίνησης»

Το μάθημα είναι ανοιχτού επιπέδου και απευθύνεται σε επαγγελματίες και ερασιτέχνες της κίνησης που θέλουν να ερευνήσουν και να αναπτύξουν τις δεξιότητές τους συστηματικά.

Κόστος συμμετοχής: 50€ + Φ.Π.Α μηνιαίως για την περίοδο των 3 ½ μηνών.

Για τους χορευτές και σπουδαστές χορού υπάρχει 10% έκπτωση.

Εάν προπληρωθεί συνολικά όλος ο κύκλος, η τιμή ανέρχεται στα 140€+ Φ.Π.Α.

Σύγχρονος Χορός (open level):

Το μάθημα ξεκινάει εστιάζοντας στην αναπνοή, ως μέθοδο συγκέντρωσης και επαφής με το σώμα. Στη συνέχεια,  δουλεύουμε με ασκήσεις στο πάτωμα, σταδιακά η κίνηση αλλάζει επίπεδα και το μάθημα ολοκληρώνεται με έναν χορευτικό συνδυασμό. Μέσω των ασκήσεων αυτών μαθαίνουμε βιωματικά για την ανατομία του σώματος. Δουλεύουμε την ισορροπία, τις ποιότητες της κίνησης και το ρυθμό.   Στόχος είναι η δύναμη και η ευλυγισία, ρευστότητα και άνεση στην κίνηση.

Σύγχρονος Χορός (professional level):

Πώς μπορούμε να μεταφέρουμε τη ρευστότητα που έχει το σώμα όταν κινείται στο πάτωμα  στη μετακίνηση μας στο χώρο;

Πώς η βιωματική γνώση της ανατομίας του σώματος μπορεί να μας οδηγήσει σε νέα κινησιολογικά μοτίβα, νέα μόνοπάτια και συνδυασμούς κίνησης;

Πώς μπορώ να κατευθύνω τη ροή της κίνησης μέσα σ ‘ένα περιβάλλoν συνεχών αλλαγών  επιπέδου, κατεύθυνσεων και δυναμικών;

Σύγχρονος χορός-Αυτοσχεδιασμός:

Το μάθημα ξεκινάει με σύντομες ασκήσεις που μας βοηθάνε να κατανοήσουμε τις βασικές αρχές της κίνησης. Στη συνέχεια δουλεύουμε σε μικρές ομάδες ή ζευγάρια και μέσω αυτοσχεδιαστικών οδηγιών παίζουμε με το χώρο, το χρόνο και τις μεταξύ μας σχέσεις καθώς χορεύουμε. Στο τέλος του μαθήματος αυτοσχεδιάζουμε σε ομάδες. Οι χορευτές συν-δημιουργούν και συνθέτουν αυθόρμητα μία παράσταση βασιζόμενη σε  ένα score (σύνολο αυτοσχεδιαστικών οδηγιών), που αποτελεί το χάρτη της διαδρομής τους μέσα στον αυτοσχεδιασμό.

ChatRooms
ChatRooms is a telematic performative installation that links, via the internet, England and Greece through the device of digital double as a form of communication. Spectators can enter and leave at any time.
18.30 – 19.30: The body images of two performers are captured in real-time in England and Greece simultaneously. Then, the performers interact with each other by observing and manipulating their superimposed images on a single projection screen, creating a virtual dance duet.
19.30 – 20.30: After the performance, spectators can book slots in order to actively participate, replacing the performer at the University of Chichester. They can experience the installation on a one-to-one basis, interacting with the performer at the Centre of Mediterranean Architecture / K.A.M. (Chania, Greece). You are welcome to just watch if you prefer.
20.30 – 21.30: Greek spectators replace the performer at the K.A.M. (Chania, Greece) and interact with the performer at the University of Chichester. You are welcome to watch.
